Introducing Green Tabu
A quarterly journal on housing, land and property rights in Syria
Some stories don’t fit into a news cycle. Housing, land and property rights in Syria are exactly that kind of tale, sprawling across legal texts, official sources, field reporting and institutional publications, and rarely brought together in one place, with the depth they deserve.
That’s why we’re launching Green Tabu, Syria’s first HLP journal.
Named after the colour of the document, tabu is the common term used in Syria for an official title deed. The word comes from the Ottoman Turkish tapu, a term historically associated with land registration and title deeds.
Building on The Syria Report’s longstanding HLP coverage, the Journal moves to a consolidated quarterly format that combines analysis, expert interviews, policy briefs, and legal and data documentation.
The first issue of Green Tabu is out now, in English and Arabic, and takes you inside:
- Reporting from Hassakeh, Homs, Suweida, Hama and Rural Damascus
- In-depth analysis on Marota and Basilia, Ottoman-era waqf property records, and urban planning in Raqqa
- Policy Options papers on real estate investment and property rights protection
You can read the first issue of Green Tabu here.
