UN-Habitat is a United Nations (UN) agency established in 1978. The agency opened its first Syrian office in 2013 in Damascus. The agency specialises in the sustainable development of cities to provide shelter for all. Since 2014, it has implemented 21 projects valued at USD 20.9 million and funded by various international organisations (UNOCHA, UNICEF, UNDP, UN Department for Political Affairs, European Commission) and countries (Switzerland, Norway, Japan, Germany). Its partners are the UNHCR, UNICEF, WFP, UNDP, FAO, and UNFPA. The agency has offices in Damascus, Aleppo, and Homs.
21 projects completed between 2014 and 2019 valued at USD 20.9 million that led to:
- Training of 130 staff from 32 municipalities in rapid urban planning;
- Rehabilitation of 74 building and 195 units in Homs and Aleppo;
- Rehabilitation of footpaths, open spaces, and crossings points to help Syrian children reach their school.
