Syrbanism is a non-profit organisation established in 2020 in Berlin by Nour Harastani and Edwar Hanna. It promotes socially-just recovery and reconstruction in Syria. The organisation’s areas of actions include information, research, policies analysis, advocacy support, knowledge sharing and networking, as well as urban alternatives and capacity building provision. It is active in the following sector: sustainable development, housing, land, and property, informality, participatory design, rural and urban politics; heritage, and public space and placemaking.
Information: Providing accurate, accessible and timely information about Syrian urban reconstruction policies.
Research: Supporting the design, production, and dissemination of research about post-conflict urban development.
Advocacy: Producing a range of advocacy resources in response to needs informed by our engagement with a range of stakeholders.
Networking: Facilitating knowledge-sharing and dialogue opportunities; through workshops and forums with our partners applying a holistic approach to urban design.
Capacity Building: Developing learning materials and learning opportunities about urban rights and development, specifically to counter misinformation about diaspora Syrian property rights.
